It’s my first card, and I used it to pay a gift, but now that I’ve paid off my debt, I don’t want the card anymore because I don’t think I’ll ever buy something at that place (Jared, the jewelry place). What will this do to my credit score? Also, does it affect that I paid the full amount before the first due date? It’s less than $300, but at the moment I didn’t have the full amount (yes I know it’s kind of silly). Please help!
Thank you so much Judy! I should have just never got that card in the first place, but salespeople really know when a naive person is coming in.

The best thing you can do for your life is to have a 0 balance on that card.
Leave it open closing it will affect you negatively in 2 ways.
It will delete part of your "length of credit history" which is 15% of your fico.
It will reduce the overall available limit on all of your cards (in your case it will wipe out your unused available limits bringing your score way down).

Leave that card open for life. They will not close it, unless you start getting bad credit on your report.

Here is the way to get top 800+ scores that will astonish lenders for when you buy a house.
Get a credit card or 2.
Use one for gas, and one for food.
Pay in full each month, the day you get the bill in the mail.
Carrying balances and paying interest on credit cards can destroy your credit and in some cases your life.
It is 100% myth that this is good - something "not smart" people will tell you.
Remember - employers check, so do landlords and car insurance companies.
Never consider carrying a balance, but do get at least one major credit card to use often.

I am searching for a pair of matching wedding rings. Out of the major jewelry dealers (Kay, Birks, Jared, Zales, etc.), which one should we go to?

All of the choices you stated are just fine.
It’s hard to tell without any information.
What metal? Is there an engagement ring this has to fit with ?
Price range ?

I fell in love with a bracelet i saw at a new Jared Jewelry store, then i asked the price and i basically flipped out! it was like 50 dollars for a bead. yeah it was pretty but im not sure if its worth it. i buy a lot of expensive jewelry and things but this just seems way to expensive….? help?

Well, I guess you don’t love it that much. I looked at a web site showing Pandora jewely and I feel like it’s just a name, more than real value. If the bead was a pricey material- a large opal- and exhibited special workmansip, it may be a fair price, but if it was some common material, leave it for someone else who can’t help theirself- to help Jared pay for all those TV commercials. Check to see if they are members, or fellows of the Gemologists Institute of America, or are they just sales.

The jewelry stores are in high swing this February with their ads showing men running out to buy jewelry for their ladies. "He went to JARED!", "Every Gift Begins with Kay", and all the others, etc.

The Vermont Teddy Bear Company has got their annual "Love Bandit" ad in heavy rotation showing the office females cooing and fawning over the gift bear ("It’s much BIGGER than I thought!" and "Where can I find a guy like that?").

The Pajama-gram folks have got their standard ad in heavy rotation, showing the slinky women in new pajamas with looks of total ecstasy on their faces and how guys will probably win some special bedroom affection if they just buy their ladies some cuddly new pajamas.

But where are the ads showing women sweating over what they are going to get for their man this Valentine’s Day? Or is this a day where only men give and women receive?

Oh I forgot…all women have to do is give their AFFECTION in exchange for material gifts, right? Or at least this is the subtle message we seem to be getting from the.marketing gurus who write these commercials.

I know many women who feel equally obligated to get their man a gift on Valentine’s Day…so how come the advertisers don’t seem to be trying to serve this consumer need, especially since women seem to wield so much spending power?

1. Men have a harder time knowing what to buy a woman for any occasion. Marketing schemes exploit this by showing men images of women loving their products. It’s likely not that men don’t know what women want so much as that it’s women who do the majority of the shopping. When women want or need something, they buy it on a regular shopping trip. So it is very infrequent that a woman wants or needs something practical. Jewelery is impractical and expensive, and about the only thing left to buy women for "special occasions."

2. In a capitalist society, we are eager to show how wealthy we are by practicing conspicuous consumption, and companies that market luxury items are eager to capitalize on that.

3. Men still feel the pressure to provide for women in an age where women make ALMOST as much money as men. That’s an example of different areas of social interaction evolving at different rates.

4. The female double standard. Women want "equal rights" and equal treatment, as long as it works in their favor. Women demand to be treated as good as men in politics and business, but have no interest in giving up their female privilege. Women (generally) don’t want to be drafted into war, so it’s okay that their not treated equally in that regard. Also, women don’t want to give up being pampered, showered with gifts, and treated like weaklings when it suits them. So, there’s currently an expectation for men to somehow know when women want to be treated equally, and when they want to be treated like the "fairer sex."

Like it or not, this is not a perfect society. Each gender, class, and race has its "cross to bear." Unfortunately, one of yours is Valentine’s Day. Everyone, do me a favor. When you think you want to buy or receive diamonds, watch "Blood Diamond" instead. Realize you are not getting a precious stone, but a readily available rock for which people are being killed so that you may wear a status symbol. Diamonds are not expensive because they are rare or precious, but because you demand them.

End of rant.

Engagement ring?

I snuck a peek in my boyfriend of over two years wallet and he has a brand new credit card from Jared the Galleria of Jewelry (where we looked at buying and engagement ring for me a year ago. . .). What do you think the odds are that he bought the ring for me?
I saw the card over a week ago. If he did buy the ring, do you think he had to order it (I wanted a 3/4 carat round peerless diamond in a platinum setting) or do you think he is just nervous about popping the question? How long can guys keep up waiting!!?

A. Stop snooping, it’s bad for your relationship.

B. They can wait a long time if they want to. My FH had my ring hidden in his closet for almost FOUR MONTHS before he asked me.

C. Yes, he probably bought the ring. Most guys don’t go around getting credit at jewelry stores for grins and giggles.

D. Quit snooping.

E. Be patient. Put it out of your mind. It will happen, but on HIS schedule.

F. Quit snooping.

We are desparately trying to find my fiance the perfect wedding band but nothing has piqued his interest. We’ve been to all the "mall jewelry stores" so those are not an option, i.e. Kay, Reed’s, Jared’s, etc. What are some cool stores that you know of for us to check out?

try all of them, ask for the clearance section.

I was listening to the radio on the way to work and there were several commercials in a row (actually on different stations cause I kept switching it as soon as the next one started) that were DRIVING ME NUTS!!!

What are your pet peeve radio commercials? Do they actually make you NOT buy the products/use the company advertised?

This morning’s offenders were:

Sunsetter Awnings - "Tell me about the discount, Rebecca" (they use the same script for this ANNOYING commercial over and over, and just change the name… I don’t know if they think that they just can’t get the right name to make the commercial work, but it’s awful.

Jared Galleria of Jewelry - "That’s JAAARRREEEDDDD…" and "He went to Jared!" Just grates on the ears.

And finally some product that I don’t remember the name of but the commercial talks about the reason that "America is so fat" is that there is "a buildup on the colon walls like spackle or paste" SPARE ME!!!

I’m definately lost business to these.

That goddamn Empire Carpet jingle. Whenever it comes on, I just have it stuck in my head for the rest of the day. "800-588-2300 empire… today!"

Does anyone know where i can find/watch the hilarious commercial for jared’s galleria/jewelry store? where they’re all like that’s jared. he went to jared blah blah hahah

try the company website ..

or any video websites like youtube or metacafe or yahoo videos …..

Has anyone heard of the engagement ring sale at Jared The Galleria Of Jewelry?
